#26: The Old Plantation banjo

First time trying a quasi-reproduction

I forgot to take pictures of this one before sending it off to its new home! But it was a joy to play and a fascinating project to think about. This has some new experiments for me: the gourd entry point was unlike what I had done before, as were the leather tailpiece and leather nut.

The goal here was a modern player that reproduces the gourd banjo depicted in the 18th century painting known as "The Old Plantation." As a final product, the placement of the sound holes and the large opening where the neck pierces through the neck of the gourd makes this one resonate beautifully. I had expected it to be more muffled. This also lacks the lowest pitched string, which hadn't been added to banjos yet.

So, with no photos, I suppose we're stuck with the video, which I did not forget!
